Puppy Mills Downright Horrific »
Posted by: hurr1 1 month, 2 weeks agoWe've all been tempted by the cute puppy in the pet store window. But before you give in to temptation and buy that furry bundle of joy, there are some things you should know. Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded and often unsanitary conditions, without adequate veterinary care, food, water and socialization.

You need to study up. If what some might call a puppy mill
is, in reality, a COMMERCIAL KENNEL? They can keep a dog
in tiny, stacked, wire cages with NO exercise outside the
cramped cage FOREVER. Their paws painfully deteriorate
from living their entire lives on wire flooring.
Animal cruelty laws DO NOT apply to commercial kennels.
Oh no - they are "regulated" by state Dog Laws. What a Humane officer might call cruelty or abuse in any other situation is not something that they have the right to investigate if it occurs at a commercial kennel.
Pennsylvania is just now working on a bill HB-2525 to
insist that these poor overbred dogs are given solid
flooring and "some" time outside the tiny cages.
IMO, anytime you mix the word commercial with animals,
you are going to have abuse - some of it quite legal.

I recently read an article and watched a video about the puppy mills that supply PetSmart stores; it was horrific. Not only are their living conditions unsanitary, but they perform surgery on these potential pets with no anesthesia, and Clorox wipes for sanitation. DISGUSTING. I wonder how the teenaged employee would like to have his balls cut off with a dull scalpel, while wide awake.

Puppy mills are horrible. If someone wants to buy a puppy they should look to a reputable breeder that will not sell a puppy without a contract. I have been in dogs for over 16 years and I presently have 8. I have bred 1 litter in my entire life. Out of a litter of 9 I placed 5. I recently "repossessed" 1 because of the treatment it was receiving. The remainder of the litter lives with me. For a reputable breeder it will be about the dogs and not profit. If someone desires to adopt from a shelter or rescue group that is great as well. I am also involved in rescue and was before I bred my litter. If you don't rescue don't breed.

I currently have two beautiful and wonderful dogs that are part of my family. I got them both out of dog shelters...you would be amazed at what people throw out or simply leave behind to fend for themselves when they move.
Bastards.
