Pets – The photos made in Saratov region prove that Russian rivers are still rich with fish. This giant catfish caught at the end of April is good evidence.
They still fish for sturgeon and spear them - on limited basis - in norther states like Michigan and Wisconsin. They make an annual event of it on some lakes, and once a set limit has been caught/speared by all fishermen, the season ends. Season might last a couple days or a couple weeks. Some fishermen get a sturgeon while some go home empty-handed.
Bottom-feeders typically prosper in streams full of garbage. American politicians prove that time and again.

wow!!!
huge fish 8)
Huge .. UGLY fish. I wonder if they noodle for catfish like they do in the South...
In this case the noodler would be bait for the fish.
Some of those guys do die trying to bring in a big catfish. Why risk you life to catch such an ugly damned thing? Catfish always gave me the creeps ever since I was a kid.
Those noodlers are crazy - sticking their hands in underwater obstructions and trying to make a big catfish swallow their hands/arms so they can pull them up. If they mess up, they can drown. Goofy!!!
