Last year, I went to see Norton and Ralph at the new Georgia Aquarium after it opened. Great facility...so sad that both of them are now dead. I am sure that this will raise the question as to if whale sharks can live under these types of conditions.

The Whale sharks in Asia have done very well in captivity. Okinawa has had 3 sharks for a decade now. It's what makes this so surprising, US aquariums are generally known for being top notch. I would assume, like the article hints at, that its chemical related. Something they are using that normally isnt harmful, is cuasing issues with them most likely. It's the same in the home saltwater fishtank world. Some species just can't handle certain things. Could be something as mundaine as the type of metals used in the tank construction even.

What's going on down there Tim? Is it something you did? They don't seem to be taking to captivity very well.

I watched a Comcast cable special on the capturing of Norton and Ralph in Thailand and the transporting to Atlanta just last night.

we are a land locked city. I used to practice in an old restaurant right next to where the aquarium is now. Yet another sad news story coming from metropolitan atlanta (it never stops!)

Whale sharks are best left in the ocean. Period.
