Federal regulators said Monday that contaminated wheat gluten is the most likely source of deaths in a large pet food recall, and that it is investigating whether other pet food makers got wheat gluten from the same supplier. The Food and Drug Administration also said that it expects the number of deaths linked to the food to grow.

Last time I checked the FDA wasn't doing very well with checking on the drug companies either.

To those of you who are concerned keep this in mind:

The problem appears to be related to wheat glutten. Last year at about this time Diamond had a similar problem with corn. Both Diamond and Menu are co-packers that manufacture for multiple brands.

I suggest pet owners consider EVO made by Natura Pet (naturapet.com). Natura has their own plant here in the states and does not use wheat or corn in their products. Beyond that their ingredients are far superior to any of the brands listed in the recall.

No, I'm not a sock puppet. I just care about my dogs.

Good comment. Do a little homework about the brand you are feeding your dogs. I never buy my dogs food at the supermarket. My vet carries an excellent all natural brand that costs a bit more, but you feed less of it and have less waste. Plus my dog looks and feels great. He shines all over and has so much energy. I think it is worth it.

And what puzzles me is that it took so long for us to find out about it.
